Iris Robinson is the wife of the Irish first minister, former parliamentary MP for Strangford and a notorious Christian bigot. Thanks to the new revelations about her adultery and attempted suicide, she’s also a dreadful hypocrite.
Robinson caused a stir with her anti-homosexuality views in 2008, when she recommended psychiatric therapy for LGB people and likened homosexuals to paedophiles and murderers. To justify has bigotry, she argued: “It wasn’t Iris Robinson who determined that homosexuality was an abomination, it was The Allmighty. This is the Scriptures and it is a strange world indeed where somebody on the one hand talks about equality, but won’t allow Christians to have the equality, the right to speak, the right to express their views.”
Do you know what else is condemned by the scriptures, Iris? Adultery and suicide. Perhaps you’ll keep your nasty mouth shut next time you remember how much God hates gay people?

Who was the adultery with? I’ve heard a young butcher who owns his own business? Since the vile Iris has said this man has no emotional or lasting meaning for her, maybe he’ll give his side of the story?
surely though people’s sex lives are their own however bigoted their views- condemn her homophobia not whether she had sex with someone outside marriage- who cares?
I’m not condemning her for having sex outside of marriage. I don’t give a damn about her or anyone else having sex outside of marriage. The point I was making (which is a similar point to the one Peter Tatchell has subsequently made) is that she’s a hypocrite. Here is an extremely nasty woman who has made quite a career out of her homophobic views- views which she says come from the Christian Bible. It’s one rule for her and one rule for the others, and exposing the hypocrisy of the political Right is a perfectly legitimate thing for a socialist blog to be doing.
